Bee Swarms

When a beehive becomes too crowded, the bees might decide to swarm.

A swarm is composed of about half the bees from the hive and a new queen. They leave the hive and settle nearby on a tree branch or other place while they are looking for a suitable place to build a new hive. This is the natural way that hives procreate themselves.

In an urban environment, there is no place where the bees can build a new hive, therefore, they invariable build one where it is inconvenient to someone: in a roof cavity, inside a wall, or in someone’s backyard tree. When this happens, it is very difficult to relocate the bees and they might need to be destroyed.

If you ever see a swarm, please call a local beekeeper or contact us and we will help you find one near your property that can come and safely relocate the bees to a suitable place.

Contact us, we will get back to you within 24 hrs: info@beeprotectionsociety.org
